<\/strong><\/p>

T<\/strong>here were 5 generations<\/b> of Herrebrugh\u2019s<\/b> that lived, cultivated and traded the valuable spice. They were plantation owners or Perkeniers of the Perk\u2019s Matelenco<\/b> and Spantje Bji<\/b> from 1794 until 1904.<\/p>

Evert Coenrardsz Herrebrugh<\/b> was the first of the Herrebrugh\u2019s that came to the Banda Islands circa 1794. This was shortly before the VOC, the Dutch East India Company<\/strong><\/a>, that held the Nutmeg monopoly, went bankrupt.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

In 1772 \u2013\u00a0Coenraad Herrebrugh (Herbrug)<\/b> (1723-1775) and his wife Margareta (born Wimmers)<\/b> (1735-1775) had a son in\u00a0Amsterdam,\u00a0Evert Coenrardsz Herrebrugh<\/strong> (1772-1809).

In 1775 \u2013 both Coenraad and Margareta die leaving son Evert <\/b>age 3.<\/p>

1778 \u2013 Gunung Api erupts, an earthquake strikes, tidal waves and a hurricane hit. The islands were destroyed, perkeniers go bankrupt.<\/p>

Around 1790, Evert Coenrardsz Herrebrugh<\/b>\u00a0first came to the Banda Islands from Amsterdam. In 1794, at age 22,\u00a0he\u00a0marries Elisabeth Leunissen <\/b>in Banda Naira. They establish the nutmeg perk \u201cM<\/b>atalenco<\/b>” (Matalenko) on the island of Ai (Ay). Colonists were enticed to become Nutmeg plantation operators if they vowed to remain there forever.<\/p>

1795 \u2013 The VOC goes bankrupt.<\/p>

1796 \u2013 The Dutch yield the islands to the English so not to be taken by\u00a0the French during the Napoleonic Era.<\/p><\/div>

1796 \u2013 Evert and Elisabeth have a son Evert Evertsz Herrebrugh (I)<\/strong> (1796 \u2013 1862)<\/p>

1803 \u2013 Banda is back in Dutch control and they began to recruit\u00a0new civil administrators to replace the defunct\u00a0VOC as the new NHM (Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij)<\/p>

1809 \u2013 Evert Coenrardsz Herrebrugh<\/strong> dies at age 37.<\/p>

From 1810 through 1817 Banda is back to English occupation\u00a0under Captain
Cole. A hurricane struck in 1815 followed by two big\u00a0earthquakes in
1816 and 1820. In 1817 Banda goes back to Dutch control. Perkeniers lead
lavish lifestyles and assume heavy debt.<\/p>

In 1821 \u2013 Evert Evertsz Herrebrugh (I)<\/strong> (1796-1862) at age 25 marries\u00a0Geertruida Carolina Hartog<\/strong> in Banda.\u00a0 He becomes the perkenier of the perk \u201cSpantjebij\u201d in Lonthor on the Big Island of Banda. He was a member of the \u201cCouncil of\u00a0Justice\u201d. They had 7 known children.<\/p>

In 1828 \u2013 Evert and Geertruida have a son, Evert Evertsz Herrebrugh (II<\/strong>) (1828-1869).<\/p>

1845 \u2013 Dutch give perkeniers titles to their perks and are now independently owned.<\/p>

1849 \u2013 At age 21, Evert <\/strong> Evertsz Herrebrugh (II<\/strong>) (1828-1869)<\/strong> marries Johanna Maria Charlotte Vermeer<\/strong>.<\/p>

1850 \u2013 They have their first child,\u00a0Andries Michiel Herrebrugh<\/strong> (1850 \u2013 1922) (My great-grandfather)<\/p>

1852 \u2013 Tidal Wave \/ 1854 \u2013 Earthquakes \/ 1856 \u2013 Fire in Banda Naira
1859 \u2013 Charities from a far reduce debts of perkeniers.
1860 \u2013 Abolition of slavery.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

1862 \u2013 At age 66, Evert Evertsz Herrebrugh (I)<\/strong> dies in Banda.<\/p>

1864 \u2013 Termination of Spice Monopoly.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

1869 \u2013 At age 41, Evert Evertsz Herrebrugh (II)<\/strong> dies in Banda.<\/p>

1870 \u2013 Andries Michiel Herrebrugh<\/strong>, at age 20 marries,\u00a0Emelijn Bernardina Strubij\/y<\/strong> (1850-1887) in Banda.<\/p>

1887 \u2013 Emelijn Bernardina Strubij\/y<\/strong> dies at age 36 in Banda.<\/p>

1889 \u2013 At age 39, Andries<\/strong>\u00a0marries\u00a02nd wife Anna Constance Theodorusz<\/strong> (1850-1916) (My great-grandmother) in Banda.<\/p>

1890 \u2013 Andries and Anna have a son:
Louis Reynard Herrebrugh<\/strong> (1890-1915) (My grandfather) in Banda.<\/p>

1904 \u2013 The perks were still debt laden and had to be sold to N.V. Kok,\u00a0a Chinese family buying perks competing against the NHM.<\/p>

In 1908 \u2013\u00a0Louis Reynard Herrebrugh<\/strong>\u00a0moves to Ulee Lheue, Banda Aceh, Northern Sumatra as the Plantations were lost and becomes a Customs Officer.<\/p>

In 1914 \u2013 Louis marries Anna Minke Teffer <\/b>(1889-1995) (My grandmother) in Banda Aceh, Sumatra.<\/p>

In Nov 1914 \u2013 Louis and Anna have a daughter, Constance Anna Herrebrugh<\/b> (1914-1995) (My mother) in Ulee Lheue, Banda Aceh.<\/p>

In Dec 1915 \u2013 Louis Herrebrugh<\/strong> dies at age of 25 of Cholera in Ulee Lheue. Anna Minke<\/b> was pregnant at the time.<\/p>

July 1916 \u2013 Anna Minke<\/b> gives birth to son, Mattheus Thomas (Thijs) Herrebrugh<\/b> (1916-1976) in Soekaboemi, W. Java<\/p>

1916 \u2013 Anna Constance Theodorusz <\/b>(1850-1916) (Great-Grandmother) dies at 66.<\/p>

1917 \u2013 Anna Minke<\/b> remarries Louis\u2019s half-brother Jacobus Johannes Bernardus <\/b>Josephus Herrebrugh <\/b>(1887-1945)<\/p>

1922 \u2013 Andries Herrebrugh<\/b> dies in Semarang at age 72.<\/p>

1945 \u2013 Jacobus <\/b>Herrebrugh<\/b> dies at age 58.<\/p>
